INGV The primary mission is the monitoring of geophysical phenomena in both fluid and solid parts of our planet. INGV is responsible for monitoring the seismicity of the entire national territory and activity of Italian volcanoes through a network of technologically advanced instrumentation, distributed throughout national or concentrated around volcanoes attivi.L 'INGV works closely with the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) and has special links with the Civil Protection Department and other authorities responsible for emergency management, both at scale national and local level. Also cooperates with the Ministries of Environment, Education, Defence and Foreign Affairs in the framework of national and international strategic projects.
INGV is particularly sensitive to the diffusion of scientific culture through publications for schools, exhibitions dedicated to geophysics, natural hazards and environmental and pages on the Internet.
In November 2003 he established a home INGV in Porto Venere (pictured above). The primary mission of the new structure is to work in the field of 'Marine Geophysics'. In early 2008, is set up, inside, the units 'Geophysics and Marine Technology', whose team consists of 10 units of staff with different professional backgrounds, with different framing and working on various areas of research. UP at Porto Venere, are carried out experimental research in science and technology in the following areas:
- Geophysical exploration techniques with magnetism and gravimetry;
- Physical Oceanography in collaboration with other institutions;
- Disclosure science by creating a library of industry-specific geological and geophysical-participation in events
- Oceanography historic home houses the HOS (Oceanography Historical Society), which seeks the promotion, dissemination and use of knowledge of the history of oceanography ;
- Calculation advanced through cooperation in the creation of a center of HPC (High Performance Computing) owned by Spedia SpA, in collaboration with the NURC (NATO Undersea Research Centre). Technological research in the coming District Ligure for Marine Technology
