CETENA 2009, from Genoa in 2009 Seafuture

CETENA - Center for the Study of Marine Technology - is a research center in the naval and maritime transport, in addition to developing research programs gods, mainly applied, provides technical advice and services to shipyards, ship owners, ship operators, port authorities.

CETENA in a nutshell: The Company's registered office is in Genoa, but the link with the territory is to break through the many long-standing activities for the Directorate of Military Ships and FINCANTIERI yard Muggiano; CETENA since 2007 has a small office just Muggiano, dedicated to sound planning for ships and pleasure craft.
CETENA currently employs 74 people, most of which has a curriculum of skills and technical-scientific (engineering, physics, mathematics, chemistry).
CETENA conducts research for the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of University and Research, the European Commission, a member of ITTC and ISSC, participates very actively in applied research activities of the Consortium Cooperative Research Ship.
Our technical expertise covering various subjects of importance for the design and construction of naval ship and operation: CFD, naval facilities and materials, noise and vibration, ergonomics and human factors, safety, environmental impact of shipping.
addition to study and numerical simulation, we perform laboratory tests and sea trials. Some typical activities
techniques CETENA:
- Optimization of hydrodynamic design ship (propulsion, hull shapes and appendages, the seal and sea operations).
- Study of the behavior of the structures and testing the characteristics of naval material, in terms of strength, fatigue, response to shock loading, fire resistance and ballistic.
- Planning vibro-acoustic with numerical prediction of noise levels and vibration tests in the laboratory and on board.
- Development ee installation of vessel monitoring systems, control structures, levels of comfort, propulsion efficiency, plant. Recent installations: the monitoring system of the aircraft carrier 'Cavour' and patrol 'Bettica' of the Italian Navy, the predictive monitoring system of the ship 'Queen Victoria' for Cunard.
- Simulations of navigation and maneuver in the laboratory VisLab.
Some important research projects in progress:
- ECOMOS - project funded by the Ministry of University and Research aimed at developing of an integrated treatment of exhaust gases for the reduction of marine pollution.
- MC-WAP - a project of the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission on the application of fuel cells for power generation on board large ships.

- SILENV - a project of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission devoted to the study of advanced tools for prediction and reduction of noise levels.
